The workshops are designed for delegates to dig deeper into specific topics in the different areas of space. This year, up-and-coming topics in the Asia-Pacific region that would be easy to work on an online platform have been chosen. Each topic will have two moderators who are familiar with the specific topic and will be presiding over the discussion and sessions. Notable experts will also be giving presentations to introduce the topic and help guide the direction of the working group. Each working group will then be divided into smaller subgroups to focus on particular aspects or subtopics of the topic. Although goals and suggested outcomes have been designed by the AP-SGOW organizers, delegates are encouraged to be creative and come up with their own ideas and deliverables. At the end of the session in Day 3, each working group is expected to submit a 3-5min video (summarizing what they did in the sessions), a 3-5min powerpoint presentation (summarizing their results), and a paper (detailing the outcomes of the working group sessions).
Before the start of each day’s activities, the online lounge will be open to hold a virtual cafe where delegates can choose a virtual table, take a seat, and socialize with other delegates. Delegates may also go into the networking room where delegates will be randomly paired with another delegate to have 1-on-1 conversations. During Day 1, the virtual cafe will be open so delegates can prepare their platform details, and address potential technical issues that the AP-SGOW organizers or technical team might be able to help with. During virtual cafe, the organizers will also provide some links to fun online activities that delegates can do together.
After the opening session on Day 1, delegates will have the opportunity to be acquainted with other delegates during a fun Meet ‘N’ Greet activity. Delegates will be randomly paired with another delegate every few minutes to get to know each other through a game. Winners of the game will receive points of engagement and will potentially receive some fun prizes!
On Day 2, delegates will be randomly divided into teams to participate in a space trivia. Teams will have to answer questions about space, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, with different levels of difficulties. There will also be some fun challenges, involved, like a scavenger hunt. At the end, the winning team will receive points of engagement and a surprise. All participants of the activity will also receive points of engagement.
At the end of Day 3, delegates will be able to participate in a networking session. This activity will be a highlight of AP-SGOW as prominent space professionals in different space-related fields and industries have been invited to speak and potentially mentor some delegates (if they choose to). Delegates will be randomly divided and assigned to a virtual table with 3-4 delegates. Each table will have the chance to speak and be mentored by each space professional for 10 minutes. As this is a unique session with several extraordinary guests, delegates are highly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.
Throughout the week of AP-SGOW, delegates will be able to join other fun activities that they can do offline or during the breaks of the event. Participation in the fun challenges will earn delegates points of engagement and by the end of AP-SGOW, surprises and prizes await for participants who win these challenges or have garnered the most points of engagement. Watch out for announcements on these fun activities for a chance to win!
International Nights have been a highlight of Space Generation Workshops as it showcases the diversity of Asia Pacific cultures in the space industry and within SGAC. On the last day of AP-SGOW, delegates will have the chance to present cultural activities or aspects of their respective countries, as well as, experience other cultures from countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Delegates will not only be encouraged to share their countries’ cultural food, songs, dances, and other activities but also, participate in other countries’ cultural activities and presentations.
