SGAC in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are pleased to announce Paromita Mitra as the winner of the 202 SGC/IAC – NASA Exploration Scholarship. Paromita will be sponsored to attend the 22st Space Generation Congress (October 10– 12 2024) and the 75th International Astronautical Congress (October 14–18 2024) in Milan, Italy.
Paromita Mitra
Paromita Mitra works at NASA Johnson Space Center as the Data Systems Lead for the Agency’s Lunar Architecture Team (LAT). In this role, she studies and develops key architecture needs for computation and data across all Artemis elements. Previously, she served as an Avionics Sub-System Manager for NASA’s Artemis Program lunar rovers and spacesuits, and Principal Investigator for a team of engineers building a heads-up display system for spacesuit helmets. Her research background encompasses distributed data systems, graphical displays, augmented reality, and human performance metrics. She has held positions working as an engineer testing F-35 engines, designing Earth science satellites, and analyzing human psycho-physiology for software and sensor development. An immigrant from Dhaka, Bangladesh, Paromita represented the state of Mississippi at the Miss USA & Miss Teen USA pageants as Miss Mississippi USA 2013 & Miss Mississippi Teen USA 2009, where she traveled to spread awareness on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, & math) literacy topics. Her passions include diversity in tech and issues of femininity in engineering. Paromita Mitra holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from Mississippi State University.
It is such an honor to be selected for NASA’s Exploration Scholarship to attend the Space Generation Congress. I’m eager to learn from the many perspectives, countries, cultures and backgrounds within the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) and bring information back home for future lunar architectures.
