We are proud to announce that the UK Space Agency (UKSA) in partnership with the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) will sponsor 2 students or young professionals to attend the 22nd Space Generation Congress (SGC) and the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) on 10 – 12 October and 14 – 18 October, 2024 respectively in Milan, Italy.

Award
The winners of the scholarship will receive financial assistance in order to attend the 22nd Space Generation Congress (SGC) and the 75th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) on 10 – 12 October and 14 – 18 October, 2024 respectively in Milan, Italy.
The scholarships will be awarded to –
The total amount per scholarship is 2,000 GBP. The grant will be provided as total or partial reimbursement to cover:
- Registration for SGC and IAC.
- Round trip travel costs to Milan, Italy, via economy airfare
- Accommodation
- Visa costs (if any)
How to Apply
To apply, you will need to prepare the following documents:
- A 1-minute video in English in which you show your knowledge on one of the 22nd SGC themes: “Ensuring Sustainability on Earth and in Space for our Shared Future,” and the 75th IAC theme: “Responsible Space for Sustainability”.
All submissions must be made by using the Scholarships Submission Form at the bottom of the page (Please make sure to be logged in on the website to see the form).
Your submission should follow the competition guidelines below.
- Please record your video in a high-quality audio and video format: make sure to have your video in a Landscape Orientation (Horizontal), with a minimum resolution of 720p.
- We encourage the participant to upload their video on YouTube as ‘unlisted’ and provide us with the link to that.
- You must be on screen in the video speaking for at least 30 seconds.
- Please limit special effects. The video is about you, not your video editing skills.
- If you are selected as a winner, we will require the rights of your submitted videos: segments of your submissions for promotion purposes.
Guidelines
Eligibility
- The scholarship is open to
– 1 student or young professional who is a UK citizen and/or resident– 1 student or young professional who is a non-UK citizen/resident
- Participants must be eligible SGAC members (registered on the SGAC website) between the ages of 18 and 35 years as of the 18th of October, 2024.
- It is highly recommended that you apply for this scholarship only if you are already located in the UK/EU or are confident in your ability to obtain a Schengen visa. Please upload one of the following documents as proof of your eligibility: a UK passport, UK residence permit, nationality of a country that does not require a visa to travel to Italy, valid Schengen visa, or a confirmed Schengen visa appointment.
- Competition judges are ineligible for the award.
In the interest of spreading opportunities to more members, SGAC reserves the right to prioritise applicants who have not recently received another SGAC-funded or partnered scholarship of a similar nature. “Recently” is defined as having received a travel grant in the past 2 years, in the same category (either international or regional/national) as this posted award. International awards include scholarships for global events such as SGC/IAC, SGFF and Space Symposium, while regional/national awards refer to events, such as the Space Generation Workshops (SGW), national space generation events (SG[country]) or other regional or national conferences.
Submission
- The language of all submissions must be English.
- All submissions must be made by the 3rd September 2024, 23:59 GMT. Any submissions after the deadline will not be considered.
Responsibilities of the Winners
The winning author shall:
- Attend the entire SGC 2024.
- Attend the entire IAC 2024.
- Support the running of SGC 2024 and the SGAC booth. These tasks offer great opportunities such as being the rapporteur of an SGC working group and helping with writing a group report, being the front face of SGAC at the SGAC booth and meeting interesting people.
- Submit a short report (2 pages excluding pictures) and a short video (1 minute) describing the winner’s experience at SGC 2024 and IAC 2024 for inclusion on the SGAC website, newsletter or social media and that of our partner. The report and video shall describe the experience of the winner at the events. For example, particularly interesting speakers, group discussions that stood out or other event highlights.
All responsibilities shall be fulfilled and reports etc. submitted no later than the 18th of November 2024. In case the scholarship awardee does not complete the scholarship requirements on time, the scholarship funds will be transferred to SGAC’s general budget to continue supporting the mission and work of SGAC.
Reimbursement
- The award will be paid out after the event, no later than 30 days after the fulfilment of all responsibilities listed above.
- The scholarship award reimbursement is conditioned on the awardee fulfilling the scholarship requirements not later than the 18th of November 2024.
- In case the winner receives funding for the event from any other organisation, the Scholarships Team shall be informed. If the applicants don’t inform the scholarship coordinators, SGAC holds the right to not reimburse the winning author. SGAC aims to reduce the number of double scholarships and will work with the winners to develop a solution in these cases.
- Applicants are advised to not engage in any expenses until they have formal confirmation that the competition has been awarded. The SGAC is not liable for any expenses incurred by applicants in any case where a competition is not awarded, or above the value of the awarded grant.
- Reimbursements will follow the SGAC Scholarships Travel Policy & Reimbursement Guidelines. Please make sure to consult the Guidelines before incurring in expenses. Please, note that on top of the items mentioned in the SGAC Scholarships Reimbursement guidelines, this scholarship also covers local transport and meals.

Copyright and Intellectual Property
- By submitting an entry, applicants agree to permit the SGAC to use their names, affiliations, and headshot photo in connection with the scholarship.
- Copyright of the submitted entry shall remain with the contestants. However, by submitting an entry all contestants agree that SGAC and all affiliated organisers are granted non-exclusive reproduction rights regarding all submitted papers. SGAC and all affiliated organisers may also present ideas and findings generated by this competition at relevant conferences.
Liability
- Organizers shall not be responsible in the event that SGC 2024 and/or IAC 2024 is cancelled. SGAC will not reimburse the winning author, even if he/she has already incurred expenses.
- Organizers shall not be responsible in the event that the award winner fails to attend SGC 2024 and/or IAC 2024 or is unable to under extenuating circumstances; in that case, the award offer shall become void.
- Organizers shall not be responsible in the event that the award winner cannot obtain any necessary travel documents; if they are required but not obtained, the award offer shall become void.
- The award is not transferable to another event or individual.
Evaluation
The applications will be evaluated by a panel composed of the SGAC Scholarships Team, and the UKSA.
