Join the 10th Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (10th AP-SGW)!
SGAC is looking for a motivated and committed volunteer to bring their expertise and knowledge to the Deputy Manager role of the 10th Asia-Pacific Space Generation Workshop (AP-SGW) which will take place on 22nd to 24th of April 2024, in Malé, Maldives.
The three-day regional workshop will bring together students, young professionals, and industry representatives to engage and nurture the next generation’s perspective on space and scientific matters in the Asia-Pacific region. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with experts from academia, businesses, and space agencies through plenary and panel sessions, keynotes and working group discussions. The AP-SGW will be hosted in partnership with the Space for Island Nations Conference 2024 (SINC 2024) hosted by the Maldives Space Research Organisation (MSRO). SINC 2024 will run from 23rd to 25th of April 2024. The second and third day of AP-SGW will be the same programming as the first and second day of SINC 2024.
For the planning of this international event, we are looking for a qualified and young space enthusiast to join the organising team as the Deputy Manager.

AP-SGW Deputy Manager Responsibilities
The AP-SGW Deputy Manager will work alongside the AP-SGW Manager in the preparation of the logistics, programming, communications and overall management of the Space Generation Workshop. This role includes overseeing the development of the event, helping to coordinate the organizing team, and proactively working towards delivering a successful Space Generation Workshop. The role will also work closely with the Space for Island Nations Conference Organising Team.
The AP-SGW Deputy Manager is responsible for the implementation of the AP-SGW and SINC 2024 programme and carries the following tasks and expectations:
- Support the SGW Manager with preparatory activities including program preparation, communications, scheduling, budgeting, and contact with SGAC supporters, etc;
- Participation in weekly meetings with the SGW Organising team and execution of action items resulting from meetings;
- Assistance in the coordination of the SINC 2024 activities;
- Delivering the event in the Maldives with very active in-person presence for the entire week of the event as well as in-person presence at SINC 2024.
The SGW Deputy Manager will report to the SGW Manager and work closely with the SGAC Executive Director and SGAC Chairs.
Estimated time commitment: 10 hours a week + 3 days of the SGW 2024 + 1 day of SINC 2024. The amount of time this role consumes will increase as the event approaches
Necessary Qualifications
- SGAC membership: registration on the SGAC website and between 18 and 35 years old by the end of AP-SGW and SINC 2024 (April 25th, 2024). The age limit is calculated from the 18th birthday to the 36th birthday of the applicant;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, quick-turnaround international environment and meet deadlines without compromising the quality of work;
- Experience/familiarity with the space sector;
- Teamwork capacity and proven leadership skills. Extensive experience working with volunteers is desirable;
- Strong working knowledge of computer applications, such as the Google Suite (including Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, etc), and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Canva as well as collaborating tools such as Slack, Zoom, and Teams.;
- Professional Fluency (Speaking, Reading, and Writing) in English;
- Awareness of international cooperation principles, concepts and techniques;
- Cross Cultural and Communication Awareness: Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with people from various international and cultural backgrounds;
- Demonstrated previous event management experience is highly desirable as well as experience with SGAC events.
- Previous experience in fundraising and business development are a relevant plus;
- Web, Social Media and Media Design skills are a plus.
