SGAC Education & Professional Development (EPD) Platform –  Coordinator

The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) is seeking a dedicated volunteer to serve as one of the SGAC Education & Professional Development (EPD) Platform Coordinators. In this position, the selected candidate will lead and manage the team that organizes, provides, and supports education and professional development activities across SGAC.

The EPD Platform represents one of SGAC’s five fundamental pillars. It is overseen by two coordinators who are members of the SGAC Executive Committee. Therefore, the person in this position will work with and report to the SGAC Chairs.

About SGAC’s Education & Professional Development (EPD) Platform:

The EPD Platform is the central coordination arm that organizes, provides, and supports education and professional development activities across SGAC. It aims to serve as a gateway for those interested in starting a career in the space industry, providing various opportunities to gain technical knowledgereceive mentorship, and gain hands-on experience on technical projects. With an unwavering commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, it is an open platform available to the global SGAC Community, providing a wide range of resources and opportunities designed to meet the needs of individuals at different stages of their careers and across all of our regions.

Goals & Objectives

  • Collaborate with the other SGAC Pillars and industry partners to offer high-quality education, outreach, and professional development opportunities.
  • Build awareness of educational and professional development activities within and outside of SGAC and improve accessibility to space education.
  • Support efforts to translate research, projects and launch new EPD initiatives.

Responsibilities

The person who occupies this role plays a crucial role in shaping and directing educational and professional development initiatives across SGAC. This key position involves a wide range of responsibilities designed to enhance the educational offerings and professional growth opportunities for SGAC members.

In summary, the duties that come along with this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Central Coordination, Goal-Setting and Representation
  • Coordinate all SGAC education and professional development activities, ensuring alignment and integration across various platforms and programs.
  • Define organizational goals and develop synergies, best practices, and a clear roadmap to enable SGAC to offer high-quality education, outreach, and professional development activities.
  • Represent the education and professional development pillar at the Executive Committee level, advocating for strategic priorities and resources.
  • Actively lead team meetings and participate in monthly Executive Committee meetings to ensure continuous alignment and progress.
  • Coordinate with the leaders of other SGAC Pillars to support their educational and professional development efforts, fostering a collaborative environment.

 

  1. Strategic Partnerships
  • Work with internal teams to identify, secure, and execute both inbound and outbound partnership opportunities for the EPD.
  • Co-develop initiatives, programs, or solutions with partners to drive mutual value and strategic impact.

 

  1. Programs, Resources, and Platforms Management
  • Oversee key programs and teams aligning them with the overall goals and roadmap of the education and professional development pillar.
  • Plan and oversee the development and maintenance of shared platforms and resources that facilitate the organization of educational and professional development activities.
  1. Awareness and Outreach
  • Build and enhance awareness of SGAC’s educational and professional development activities, ensuring broad participation and engagement from SGAC Members.
  1. Reporting and Planning
  • Oversee the development and submission of annual reports and work plans for the education and professional development teams.
  • Prepare and lead monthly meetings with the team leaders of each EPD Team.
  1. Documentation and Legacy
  • Contribute to the SGAC annual report and prepare comprehensive training packs for future project coordinators.
  • Develop an annual Work Plan at the beginning of each year to set clear objectives and benchmarks.

This role is ideal for a leader with a strong background in education and professional development, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a passion for fostering educational opportunities within the space sector.

Estimated time commitment: 4 – 7 hours per week

The position will have a probationary period of 3 months.

If the probationary period is successful, the candidate will appointed for a term of two years and may serve two consecutive terms

Necessary Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants shall possess the following qualifications:

  • Be a registered SGAC member (Individuals can register for free on the SGAC Website).
  • Be a citizen of a United Nations Member State.
  • Be between 18 and 33 years of age at the start of their term.
  • Serious interest in space-related activities, education, and professional development.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, quick-turnaround international environment and meet deadlines without compromising the quality of work.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork experience.
  • Professional Fluency (Speaking, Reading, and Writing) in English
  • Demonstrated a high level of self-organization
  • Cross Cultural and Communication Awareness.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Background and experience in project management.
  • Professional Fluency (Speaking, Reading, and Writing) in other languages.
  • Experience as a team member or leader within one of the SGAC EPD Teams.
