Working Group Moderator Applications

Like every year, we are extending an invitation to experienced delegates who wish to take on a more active role in the SGC as Working Group Moderators. During the event, moderators will support, lead, and facilitate discussions within their respective Working Groups. If you are interested in taking up this opportunity, please visit the Working Groups tab on the SGC 2026 website to find more details about the potential topics for this year.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with Subject Matter Experts, Working Group Speakers, and Delegates and set the stage for a productive and efficient discussion.
  • Ensure the discussion stays on topic and does not deviate into irrelevant or unrelated areas.
  • Encourage all participants to contribute to the discussion and ensure that everyone has an opportunity to express their ideas.
  • Keep track of time and ensure the discussion stays within the allotted time frame.
  • Address any conflicts or issues arising during the discussion and work to resolve them constructively.
  • Manage any disruptive behaviour or comments during the discussion and ensure everyone behaves respectfully and appropriately.
  • Encourage participants to continue the discussion or follow up on any action items identified during the conversation.
  • Lead the outline of key points and conclusions of the discussion at the end of the session.
  • Coordinate with the rapporteur to draft the final report for their working group to be delivered one month after the SGC.

Estimated time commitment: 10 hours cumulative prior to SGC; 3 days during the SGC and 10 hours cumulative post SGC.

Period of Performance: TBD

The SGC Organizing Team will offer a dedicated SGC Moderators Workshop for successful applicants to ensure that moderators are fully equipped. In addition, the workshop is designed to provide valuable training to improve verbal and written communication skills, as well as leadership abilities and collaboration strategies, which are essential for effective moderation. Participation in this workshop is mandatory for all moderators.

Selected SGC Moderators will receive a discounted registration ticket fee for SGC 2026. Note that being selected for this position does not imply that SGAC will provide funding for attending the event.
