Young Professionals Workshop (April 2022)

The International Astronautical Congress (IAC) is the premier conference for professionals in the space sector. The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is the hosting body for the IAC, whose activities involve the annual Young Professionals (YP) Workshop that is hosted in parallel to the IAC. The goal of the YP Workshop is to recruit young researchers from around the world to investigate selected topics of interest for the IAF community. The in-person YP workshop happens one day before the IAC, usually hosted in September-October.

TWAIL & CAIL: Decolonising Global Space Governance to Empower Global South in New Space

By rethinking the origin story of international law, one which does not exclude the Global South, scholars of the Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) aim to restructure the existing framework of Global Space Governance. In addition, the Cosmopolitan Approaches to International Law (CAIL) was suggested to work hand-in-hand with the development of TWAIL in space and its governance.

Sara Mirshekari is one of the only female leaders in this space and has successfully founded an agricultural business based on satellite data analysis, called Keshtyaar. Cybersecurity Risk Mitigation For Ground Systems

Nearly all satellite missions - commercial, military or scientific - use Ground Systems to control and manage their operations. Ground Systems operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and can often support multiple spacecraft. These Systems consist primarily of a large antenna that communicates with the orbiting spacecraft via radio waves, called a telecommunications link. Ground Systems are responsible both for transmitting information (such as command and control instructions for orbital corrections) and receiving information (such as telemetry data about where the satellite is located).
